Jean Bayou writes songs of humor and grace on a range of subjects from her experiences with motherhood, womanhood, the neighborhood (and other hoods too numerous to mention).

From the ridiculous to the sublime with attitude, Jean's titles reveal fair warning of the wondrous ride ahead: "Knocking on a Deaf Man's Door," "Mammogram" and "Torture (The Cynic's Vacation)" are some fine examples of a variety of topics Jean has written about with humor, wisdom and poignancy.  Jean's use of special and sometimes haunting tunings and progressions reflects her worldliness; her lyrics grab you with her observations of comedy and tragedy and her melodies hold you captive.

Jean is beginning her fifth year as President of the Songwriters Association of Washington, an organization that she holds dear to her heart, for all of the aspiring, inspiring, talented, hard-working, generous, and amazing people she has had the pleasure to work with over those years A few of those friends will accompany Jean during her Athenaeum performance.

It is rumored that Mz Bayou's debut CD (which has been over a half century in the making!) will be hot off the presses that night....here's hoping!
